It’s been a whole week since the convention. Which has given me a bit of time to think about it. Which is a good thing.
The whole week I’ve been riding on a wave of, I don’t know, what I feel is a high. Like we reached a milestone down in Melbourne. Caitlin and I had been on a holiday pretty much since Sydney Supanova. So we were pretty relaxed too. I don’t know if it’s because Stan Lee was there, because we were set up right across from him, or simply the amount of people that came through which resulted in this outcome. But we felt like we were on equal footing with the big boys of the industry.
Not Stan Lee though. Oh no. He’s in another category. A god-like category. My ego is getting away from me here but there was people like Paul Mason, Douglas Holgate, Stewart McKenny and host of other great Australian Talent there. And despite this immense amount of talent, people came and bought pictures that we had made, so that their idols could sign them. That blows me away. But what really did it for me is that Sir Patrick Stewart and Stan Lee (he said his was ‘cute’!) actually signed each of their pictures. Then, to top it all off, we caught Jason Momoa walking around. So we kind of ambushed him and gave him his picture.
His smile seems genuine too. But maybe that’s just me being optimistic. I’m guessing there is a whole wall full of pictures done by fans in his house. Hopefully that one is now amongst them.
So. Despite that many of the attendees would have considered Oz Comic-Con ‘poorly run’ (which it probably did seem like from their perspective). Despite the crowding of the artists tables due to the immense lines. The shut outs, the over selling and the negative reviews. We had a great time. We’ll be back. Because we loved it. The fans coming through were great, really supportive of our art. Despite us coming in feeling like amatuers, we left feeling like pros.
Like we might actually be able to make it in the world of comics.
But we’re just doing what we enjoy. Which is very reaffirming.
Until next time!
We should be back into a rhythm of updating soon. Keep an eye out for issue 5 soon!
